Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Cronyn

Dr. Cronyn is a Clinical Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where he is the Program Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and the Director of Undergraduate Dental Education in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Robert Cronyn, his wife Denise and their six sons are all natives of Buffalo, NY.  He recently retired from the United States Army as a Colonel with 23 years’ service. His assignments included: Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for USA DENTAC, Ft. Meade, MD and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he mentored Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residents.  Prior to his assignment to Ft. Meade, MD, Dr. Cronyn served as the Deputy Commander, Commander and Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, USA DENTAC, FT Riley, KS.  When deployed 2012-2013, he was the Inpatient Trauma Services Flight Commander, 455th EMDOS, Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan.  Prior to his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA., Dr. Cronyn served as a General Dentist, USA DENTAC, Fort Stewart, GA. He served in 2005-2006 as a general dentist and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of the 502nd Dental Company, 30th Medical Brigade.  For service in Afghanistan, among other awards, Dr. Cronyn was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.  Prior to his retirement he was also admitted to the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit.

Dr. Cronyn’s education includes:  Bachelor’s Degree (History, 1971, Canisius College, Buffalo, NY), Master’s Degree (Cell & Molecular Biology, 1977, Roswell Park Memorial Institute Graduate Division, SUNY @ Buffalo), Doctor of Dental Surgery (1982, SUNY @ Buffalo), Juris Doctor (1991, SUNY @ Buffalo) and Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2011, Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA).  He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in March 2014.  He holds memberships in the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, Eighth District Dental Society, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, New York State Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Society, Western New York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Society, American Dental Society of Anesthesia and is a member of the Alumni Associations of the State University at New York at Buffalo Schools of Dental Medicine and Law.

Surgical interests include all phases of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a particular interest in trauma surgery.  Personal interests include riding his Harley Davidson and performing in the music ministry at the SUNY at Buffalo Neumann Center.
